Genesis 18.

  1. Abram has been following God for 25 years. God comes to him and reaffirms the covenant. God tells him there still will be a child. 25 years is a very long time to wait on God to fulfill a promise. I think Abram's patience may be the a greater act of faith than his leaving everything. 25 years and still no child is a very long time!

  2. I can't imagine waiting on God for 25 years to fulfill a promise. However, this Scripture lets us know the importance of patience - and persistence. Abram and Sarah both knew this was God's will that she have a child but it is obvious that Sarah had given up. I would probably laugh too if I was told that such an "unusual" event would happen! This laughter shows that Abram's faith is greater than Sarah's.

The next section of the Scripture is also very thought-provoking. So much bad stuff was occurring in Sodom that God was ready to destroy it. However, Abram kept asking God, "If there are only...who are righteous" will you still destroy the city? God promised that He would not. Abram was again persistent - and courageous to repeatedly ask such questions! As God looks at us in our nation, city, church, home, heart, I wonder how He feels about us!
