Luke 8
Jesus uses the parable of the sower to describe how the word of God touches our lives. As you read this passage, what type of soil is your soul? Are you open for God's word to grow deeply in your life? Does God's word grow for a short period of time and then get crowded out by other pressing matters of life? How is the soil of your soul?

I'm sorry to admit that there are many times in my life that when I hear God's word it grows for "a short period of time." However, as life's worries and stresses increase, I often "forget" what God has promised. I think that is why I was so interested in the Companions in Christ Bible studies since in the sub-title it uses the phrase "spiritual formation." That is also the major mission in my studies at Perkins in becoming a spiritual director - so that I can grow spiritually and then help others to do so in order that we can all live a life closer to the way God wants us to do so.
