1 Corinthians 12
The image that Paul uses for the church is the body. We are all part of the body. Paul's teaching is clear that Christianity is not something we do in isolation but in community. We have been given gifts and abilities not for ourselves, but to serve the body. Our task is to learn what our gifts and abilities are and to use them in service. In doing so we serve Christ and Christ's body.

This passage brought to mind the pastoral staff of the church. Each one has a different gift that they bring to the table: addressing and motivating large groups; spending personal, quality time with people; being there in hard times and times of need. These different aspects make up the body that leads our church. The more gifts and talents that we devote to the Lord, the stronger the body becomes, and the greater things it can do.
ReplyDeleteI think this also works the other way, too. I find when I devote my talents to Christ, I am able to do more than when I am doing something for myself. I believe that He gives me this strength during those times because I am using my talents in the way He intended them to be used-for His glory.
