Ruth 1

Ruth's commitment to Naomi is amazing. When Naomi urges her daughter-in-laws to return to their families, Ruth remains committed to Naomi. Her response in verses 16-17 have become famous.

Ruth has a deep commitment to Naomi. She is willing to give up everything she has known to stay with her. As you consider your life, what are your deepest commitments? Is there anyone/anything for which you would be willing to give up everything?

  1. This story makes me think of Ken's Mother's Day sermon when he said that adult children should "protect" their mothers. Ruth was the daughter-in-law of Naomi but the only relative and was willing to give up everything for Naomi. What love!

For the answer to Ken's question about our willingness to give up everything, my first thought is for my children. This reminds me of something I heard Rick Warren say: "Everything I own is only just a loan - from God." My "stuff" isn't really mine; it all is God's. That's a pretty powerful thought!
